Religious Education

RE is not boring and is not just for people who want to be priests. The questions that we
look at are ones which are frequently in the news, the soaps and talked about in pubs
up and down the country. By using a variety of stimulating activities, including video
clips, music, board games, puzzles, as well as role play and discussion we aim to help
pupils become questioning young adults who enjoy their time at school and leave
prepared to face the challenges of life.

Key Stage 3 Curriculum
In KS3 we focus on important eternal questions of life including:
Why some people believe in God and others do not
What it means to be a religious person
Who was the Buddha?
Whether you can prove God’s existence
What do people ask about Jesus?
Why do we suffer?
What happens when we die?

Key Stage 4 Curriculum
In KS4 pupils can opt to take a GCSE in Religion, Ethics and Philosophy. All pupils receive 2% of
curriculum time in which issues such as Abortion, Euthanasia, Marriage and Family Life, Prejudice and Discrimination and Religion and the Media are looked at. This may lead to a GCSE (short course) being awarded.

Facilities
The department is well stocked with a range of artifacts, games, videos, and textbooks. All rooms used to teach RE have interactive whiteboards.
