Fairfield High’s Executive Headteacher received at No. 10 Downing Street.

Gordon Brown and Ed Balls met Headteachers from across the country to congratulate them for their hard work, dedication and commitment to improving education for pupils at both primary and secondary level.

Executive Headteacher of Wade Deacon and Fairfield High Schools, Mrs Wright, was invited to No. 10 to meet with the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families in recognition of innovative approaches to education, commitment to raising achievement for all pupils, and examination success at Fairfield.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: “These Headteachers have been pivotal to driving up standards and fostering a positive environment for learning in their schools, often in challenging circumstances. They represent the crème de la crème of Head Teachers and are a real credit to their schools and the local communities they serve.

"Their commitment is truly commendable and I am proud to celebrate their success in Downing Street. As we develop chains of schools run by some of the best heads even more pupils will benefit from the experience of such outstanding professionals."

Ed Balls said:“Headteachers are key to driving up standards and ensuring that pupils have the best opportunities to fulfil their potential and leave school with the best possible achievements.

“These schools, and everyone associated with them, should be very proud of themselves. The teachers, parents and pupils have worked incredibly hard and I would like to thank everyone involved in improving standards at these schools.

“Many of these schools have improved despite facing challenging circumstances and it is important to recognise the drive and determination of Headteachers in raising achievement.

“In the last decade we have seen a transformation in school standards and we are committed to maintaining our focus to make sure that every child is given the best start in life. Every parent wants to their child to go to a good school where they can reach their full potential and we know good leaders are vital to make this happen.”
